We are offering volunteer positions in many areas from Tea Host/Hostess to Carnival Games Operator.

It is our goal to offer positions to energetic and enterprising personalities.

 

The Society for the Ethical Treatment of Kraken endeavors to provide a safe, comfortable, and accepting environment for all our volunteers. If you are looking for work experience, a reference, or just an opportunity to help create a marvelous new community in Winnipeg, please respond to the positions offered below.  

Serving/Kitchen 

Positions:

High Tea Positions

Job Title:  High Tea Hostess/Host

 

Purpose:

- Greet and Serve High Tea Guests. We are looking for enthusiastic and fun-loving volunteers to help us create a truly magical afternoon Tea.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Help create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere during our High Tea

- Set up tables for our guests

- Greet Guests and Seat them at their tables

- Serve Tea and Coffee as needed during High Tea Hour

- Clear tables as needed

 

Time Requirements:

- Help set up between 2:30pm to 3:30pm

- Serve tables with Tea and Coffee from 3:30pm to 4:30pm

- Assist in clearing tables once the Tea has ended, 4:30pm to 5pm

- A total of 2.5hrs required

Skills & Qualifications:

- No previous serving skills required, will train

- Be energetic, fun loving

- Must have good people skills

- Must dress in a clean white shirt, black dress pants or skirt, and sensible footwear.

 

Orientation & Training:

- We will train our volunteer hosts and hostesses before June 8th

 

Supervision:

- We will have experienced Hostesses on hand to supervise

Supporting Policies:

- There will be a Certified Food Safety Person supervising at all times

- We encourage participation from all age groups

 

Working Conditions:

- We do our best to provide a positive and productive working environment in which our volunteers needs and concerns are important to us.

- We create a safe, fun, and satisfying work experience. The church is an old  building that does not have air conditioning, please be aware that it can get quite warm in June, dress in lightweight fabrics. 

 

Benefits:

- We will help develop skills in serving and customer service

- Referrals and work experience in the service industry

- Develop ties with different artistic and event communities

- Become a part of building a fledgling event into a Winnipeg Institution

- Make a difference in your local community by participating in an event that has a mandate to embrace the Joy of Life, inclusivity, all ages learning from and with each other, creativity, positive attitudes, and a DIY environment.

Penny Farthing Cafe Positions

Job Title:  Food Server

 

Purpose:

- Serve Guests at the Tea's Penny Farthing Cafe

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Help create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere during our High Tea

- Set up Penny Farthing Cafe during Saturday morning at from 10am to 12pm.

- Serve tea, coffee, beverages, light snacks to guests

- Clear tables as needed

- warming up of light snacks

- Cleaning the kitchen and Upper Hall after the Tea is over at 5pm

 

Time Requirements:

- Help set up between 10 to 12pm

- Serve from 12pm to 5pm

- Assist in cleaning and packing up Penny Farthing Cafe at 5pm

- A total of 8hrs, with a half an hour break for lunch, and two 15min breaks 

Skills & Qualifications:

- No previous serving skills required, will train

- Be energetic, fun loving

- Must have good people skills

- Must dress in a clean white shirt, black dress pants or skirt, and sensible footwear.

 

Orientation & Training:

- We will train our volunteer servers before June 8th

 

Supervision:

- We will have experienced Servers on hand to supervise

 

Supporting Policies:

- There will be a Certified Food Safety Person supervising at all times

- We encourage participation from all age groups

Carnival Games Area

Carnival Games Attendant

Job Title: Carnival Games Attendant

 

Purpose:

- We are looking for volunteers who are energetic and outgoing to encourage our guests to enjoy the Carnival Games Area. This position is to manage and care for our individual games that were created by us. Each volunteer will man one game each. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Create a fun and welcoming atmosphere in our Carnival Games Area

- Supervise and run one of our carnival games

- Interact with Convention Guests, encourage them to play games, help with operation of game, and take tickets

- Make sure that our games are used in an appropriate manner

 

Time Requirements:

- Help set up between 11am to 12pm

- Run assigned game from 12pm to 5pm

- Assist in take down and loading of game in moving truck at end of day

 -7hrs

 

Skills & Qualifications:

- No previous skills required, will train

- Be energetic, fun loving

- Must have good people skills

- Please wear clothing for outside activities, need sunscreen, hat, and must be dressed in a neat and tidy manner.

 

Orientation & Training:

- We will train our volunteers for their assigned game before June 8th

 

Supervision:

- We will have experienced event staff on hand to supervise

Supporting Policies:

- There is always a safe work practice environment

- We encourage participation from all age groups

- We ask that you have a background check with Police, you will be interacting with all ages

 

Working Conditions:

- We do our best to provide a positive and productive working environment in which our volunteers needs and concerns are important to us.

- We create a safe, fun, and satisfying work experience.

- Carnival Games volunteers will be outside, we will provide water and breaks.

 

Benefits:

- We will help develop skills in customer service

- Referrals and work experience in the service industry

- Develop ties with different artistic and event communities

- Become a part of building a fledgling event into a Winnipeg Institution

Performers

High Tea Musician Volunteer

Job Title: High Tea Musician Volunteer

 

Purpose:

-Play an acoustic instrument during the seating and serving of the High Society Tea. Instruments preferred: Harp, violin, flute, acoustic guitar, stringed or wind instruments.

-If you are a trio, quartet, or small band that would like to perform, we are also open to have you at the High Society Tea.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

-Help create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere during our High Tea

- Play during the seating and serving of High Tea

- Play classical selections, folk, or cheery music suitable for a Tea

Time Requirements:

- 3:30pm to 4:30pm play during Tea

- 15 min break

- 45 mins in total

 

Skills & Qualifications:

- Must be able to play instrument competently

- Must have some experience performing in front of an audience

- Be energetic, fun loving

​- Must have good people skills

- Must dress in a clean white shirt, black dress pants or skirt, and sensible footwear.

Orientation & Training:

- We will brief musician before June 8th

 

Supervision:

- We will have experienced event staff on hand to supervise

 

Supporting Policies:

- There is always a safe work practice environment

- We encourage participation from all age groups from 16+

Working Conditions:

- We do our best to provide a positive and productive working environment in which our volunteers needs and concerns are important to us.

- We create a safe, fun, and satisfying work experience.

People To Put Up Posters

People To Put Up Posters Volunteer

Job Title: People To Put Up Posters 

 

Purpose:

-Put up posters in your area of Winnipeg

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

-Place posters in relevant stores and poster boards for the Tea

-Be respectful of businesses, ask before putting up

-Make sure to use tape or staples as requested, also respect date limits on boards

-Please hang up all posters you are given or return the ones you did not use before May 5th so others can use them

Time Requirements:

-On or before May 1

-However many hours you wish

 

Skills & Qualifications:

-Be able to manage one's own time and old enough to work independently 

- Be energetic, fun loving

​- Must have good people skills

Orientation & Training:

-We will contact the volunteer

 

Supervision:

-No supervision

 

Supporting Policies:

- There is always a safe work practice environment

- We encourage participation from all age groups from 16+

-We will provide tape or stapler, staples

Working Conditions:

- We do our best to provide a positive and productive working environment in which our volunteers needs and concerns are important to us.

- We create a safe, fun, and satisfying work experience.
